| Choosing Fixtures
Different types of Low Voltage Lighting and Solar Lighting fixtures will produce
different kinds of light patterns and direction. Here are some things to consider when you are choosing your
lighting fixtures.
WALK LIGHTS
Taller fixtures allow light to disperse over a larger area to provide
more illumination to surrounding surfaces. Preferred for single accent lights. |

FLOODLIGHTS
Direct light upward at controllable angles to illuminate statuary, highlight
fences, landscaping, and architectural surfaces. |

foot traffic around steps, benches, railings and more. |

them ideal for lighting walks and steps. |

landscape borders and driveways. |

Bulb Brightness / Intensity
Low Voltage lights are available in many levels of brightness ranging from 4 watts up to 50 watt halogen. Choose
the level of brightness that will provide the amount of lighting that you want. Higher wattage bulbs (especially
halogen) produce more light output for illuminating objects and landscaping. Solar lights provide accent or marker
illumination.
L.E.D. Brightness / Color
Solar Light fixtures are available in either amber or brighter white L.E.D. models. The use of sun-powered, solar
accent lighting is not meant for every lighting application. Malibu's solar accent lighting products output enough light
at night to effectively mark and outline the locations of darkened areas; such as, steps, walks, driveways, patios, etc.
Solar lighting is best suited for applications where a regular source of power is unavailable or difficult to access; but
still some accent lighting is desired.
Quantity / Placement
The number of lights used and the distance placed between them can greatly change the overall lighting effect. Generally
it is better to use fewer lights, placed closer together (within 10' of each other) than to use many lights, scattered too
far apart. Remember, the lights are easily repositioned, so if you are not satisfied at first with your arrangement, you can
move them until you have attained the desired lighting effect.
Colors / Finishes
For fixtures that you want to blend in with surrounding foliage, choose verde (green) or black. For fixtures with higher
visibility, choose styles and colors that best complement your home's exterior design and landscape theme.
