HEADCOTE® deck screws are #305 stainless, have auger points, square recesses and countersinking
nibs. In some materials, such as certain hardwoods and dense composites, pre-drilling may be necessary. (Check with composite
deck board manufacturer's installation instructions for recommendations).
For best results and a perfect hole and fit every
time, use the SMART-BIT® pre-drilling and countersinking tool.
The coating used for HEADCOTE® has been specially formulated for durability but, like all coatings in outdoor and flooring
applications, it is subject to wear based on foot traffic and and exposure to the elements.

| The SMART-BIT®/HEADCOTE® System
When combined with the SMART-BIT, the pre-drilling and countersinking tool specifically designed
for use with the HEADCOTE® deck screws, the once difficult task of pre-drilling an entire deck becomes fast and
easy. SMART-BIT® makes a hole 1-1/8" deep, including the depth of the countersink. It is general practice not
to pre-drill the underlying (joist) material, as this is usually treated lumber and does not require pre-drilling.
SMART-BIT® provides sufficient depth for installing deck lumber up to 5/4" nominal size.

The SMART-BIT® tool package contains one (1) complete tool, two (2) extra replacement
bits and one (1) hex wrench. Choose either the #7 size for the 1-5/8" Screws or the #8 size for the 2-1/2" Screws.
